Dog

The term ‘dog’ in poker is just a shortened form for “underdog”. This term refers to a player or hand being statistically less likely to win in a betting round.

Dominated Hand

A ‘dominated hand’ is one that is likely to always lose to a better hand, despite people often playing it. For example, if you have an Ace and a 4, it will be dominated by an Ace and 5+, unless you get lucky on the flop.

Double

A Double is a bet that consists of trying to pick two winning outcomes in different events. Both choices must win for the bet to be successful, with winnings from the first bet going on to the second bet, thereby doubling your return.

Double Chance Betting

Double chance betting is popular in football and gives you twice the chance to win a bet. For example, if you want to bet on whether a team will win, lose, or draw a game, a double chance sees two of the three outcomes combined, instead of just one, such as Win/Draw, or Draw/Lose.

Draw Dead

To ‘draw dead’ means to try to make a poker hand that even if you make it, still won’t be good enough to win the pot. For example, if you are drawing to make a straight and your opponent already has a full house, you are drawing dead.

Draw No Bet

Draw no bet refers to when you have backed a result, usually in football, with the safety net that if the game ends in a draw your stake is refunded.

Drift

If you hear the term drift it means that the odds on a selection have increased or ‘drifted out’. For example, the odds on a horse will often drift when people stop betting on it, so the bookmakers increase the odds to tempt people to back it at a higher price.
